  1. You won’t regret your move! My parents moved to French Quarter November 2016. We fretted and worried we wouldn’t see enough of them from here in the Northeast U.S. We see them ALOT! Preferable at their house <3. Irma was not fun. Really not fun. But in the French Quarter my parents found a new family and support system. Islanders are incredible as you already know. Now I have a new branch of the family to get to know and love. Now my parents live in Belair. It is as wonderful and special but in a different way. Enjoy the process. Enjoy the move. Maybe we will meet you on one of our visits! Good luck 🙂

  2. Thank you the kind words, Kim! It is true, this is altogether thrilling and terrifying at the same time! Fortunately my husband and I do well under pressure. So while I am certain that we won’t come out of this without speed bumps along the way, I am certain that I have a partnership that can withstand the journey. I look forward to meeting you in your future travels to the island.

  3. I saw your blog linked on an SXM Facebook group and spent the day reading it. I traveled solo to SXM in September. It was my first visit. I cannot explain what exactly it was about the island, but it captured my heart. This week, I am in negotiations to purchase a studio apt. in Maho that is in pre-construction stage. I’m a long way away from living there half time or full time, so I plan to rent it for however long it takes for my stars to align. I look forward to reading your updates! I’m headed back for the Heineken Regatta in Feb/Mar. Also, did I read somewhere that you lived in Charlotte? I’m a fellow Charlottean as well….

    1. Hi Alison and welcome! Since you’ve read the blog you know that Andy and I had that same “there’s something about this island” on our first visit over 8 years ago, as well. I’ve been traveling the Caribbean for over 30 years and have been on the vast majority of the islands. None have “spoken” to me the way this one does. Yes, our last home was just north of Charlotte, in Huntersville up by Lake Norman. I’ll be updating frequently with pics and just general information as situations arise. Stay tuned!
